WHAT CAN THE APPLE CIDER VINEGAR DIET DO FOR YOU?

Studies have been conducted on overweight rats, mice, and humans that do suggest that an ACV diet improves metabolism, prevents fat deposits, and reduces appetite for the benefit of weight loss.

A 2018 clinical trial conducted over 12 weeks confirmed that one group of people who decreased their calorie intake by 250 kcal/day and took 30 ml/day of apple cider vinegar lost about 3.5 more pounds than the group who also reduced their calorie intake by the same amount but did not take ACV.

These studies indicate that weight loss with apple cider vinegar is productive. Still, other health benefits occur when on a diet with apple cider vinegar, such as lower triglycerides, lower cholesterol, and higher HDL-C levels.

Lower Triglycerides

Triglycerides are fat that your body makes or comes from food. Triglycerides are present because they are a source of energy that allows you to function. However, when you eat extra calories, more triglycerides are generated and stored in fat cells for later use, raising your risk for heart disease.

Another research study conducted in 2009 showed that more weight loss was evident in the group that consumed vinegar but also showed that their triglyceride levels were noticeably lower.

Lowers Total Cholesterol and LDL-C

Cholesterol in the body builds cells and creates vitamins and other hormones. Your body manufactures cholesterol from the liver, and more cholesterol is added when eating meats and dairy products.

However, the problem occurs when eating these foods high in saturated and trans fats. Eating these foods causes your liver to produce more cholesterol, going from a normal level of cholesterol to one that’s unhealthy. In addition, high cholesterol can cause the development of fatty deposits in the blood vessel, making it difficult for blood to flow through.

Studies have shown that an apple cider vinegar weight loss diet can lower cholesterol, causing the plaque to shrink and allowing more blood flow.

Raises HDL-C

HDL cholesterol is the cholesterol you want more of. HDL absorbs cholesterol in the blood and carries it back to the liver to be flushed out of the body. So knowing weight loss with apple cider vinegar can higher HDL and lower your total cholesterol and LDL should prompt you to start your diet with apple cider vinegar.

It was shown in studies that one to two tablespoons a day was enough for noticeable weight loss in subjects, this should be the standard of how much apple cider vinegar for weight loss you should take. It is still being determined whether it is better to take ACV during the day or night, but taking it during or before meals may be best for appetite suppression.

ARE THERE DRAWBACKS AND RISKS TO USING APPLE CIDER VINEGAR FOR WEIGHT LOSS?

Although using apple cider vinegar for weight loss and other health goals is a tremendous benefit, there can be risks to using ACV. Be careful that ACV can have adverse effects if taking diuretics to treat high blood pressure or any drug that lowers potassium. Taking ACV can lower potassium or worsen already reduced potassium.

People with diabetes should also be aware that taking ACV can alter insulin levels and should be cautious when taking apple cider vinegar.
