For many of us, the holidays are going to be different this year, with COVID-19 in our midst. Choosing caution, families all over the country will be celebrating the holidays at home, rather than physically being with relatives and friends.
That doesn’t mean, however, that the holidays can’t be shared, enjoyed and honored with the ones we love. North Coast Organic would like to offer these ideas for creating special, social-distanced holiday memories:
Make Holiday Cookies Together – Baking holiday cookies together has always been a great way for grandparents and aunts and uncles to connect with younger members of the family. With Zoom and other online tools, you can still continue that tradition. First choose one or two yummy holiday cookie recipes. Some of our favorites, featured on our website, include: oatmeal cookies, apple cider toffee, chocolate chunk cookies, apple blondies, pumpkin cheesecake bars, APPLESAUCE macaroons and cinnamon APPLESAUCE cookies. Then, gather together all of the ingredients and cooking utensils you will need. Get online and start mixing your cookies. While the cookies are baking, talk about your plans for the holidays, whether you will be taking a wonderful walk in the snow, or watching a favorite holiday movie. Finished cookies can be left on the doorstep of family members who live nearby, neighbors and friends. A win-win for everyone!
Unwrap Presents Virtually on Christmas Morning – If your family celebrates Christmas, plan an online meeting to share the unwrapping of presents on Christmas morning. Write special messages for recipients on gift tags ahead of time, and read them out loud when you open each one. If Santa normally comes in person, leave cookies out the night before, and explain that Santa just couldn’t stay around this year. (Also, don’t forget that Santa’s favorite drink isn’t milk, it’s North Coast Apple Cider!)
Host a Virtual Holiday Sing Along – Everyone loves Christmas carols! Gather friends and family for a virtual singalong. Let each person choose their favorite songs ahead of time, so everyone can be sure to have the words to the music.
Participate in or Host Drive-By Events – Decorate your yard in holiday lights and invite family and friends to drive or stop by for a social-distanced conversation. Invite Santa, if available, and watch young eyes light up!
Host a Virtual Cocktail Party for Family and Friends – On New Year’s Eve, get together for a toast with friends as the ball drops on Times Square. North Coast Organic offers exciting new twists on six traditional holiday drinks to help you get the party started.
